our history
1820
Joseph Troger acquires an estate near the Vomperbach, a Tyrolean stream, which includes farmland, a “Lohnmühle” (a type of toll mill), a lime kiln, and a fence initially intended for personal use. Due to the growing demand for timber in the region, Troger decides to build a waterwheel-driven sawmill.
1964
During the war and post-war period, other economic sectors gradually receded into the background and Walter Troger, 5th generation, and his wife Gerda focused on the sawmill.
By this time, the sawmill was basically still in its original form but had been electrified and was already cutting 3,600 FM per year.
This aerial photograph dates back to the early years of the 20th century. During renovations, a joist dating back to 1692 was discovered, proving how long this property has existed.
1967
The investment in a log yard was a complete novelty at the time.
until 1969
A little later, a new sawmill with a cutting capacity of 26,000 FM per year was built, completing the transformation into a powerful sawmill specializing in timber trade.
1973
Troger performed pioneering work by producing three-layer boards and thus pursued the path of processing.
1984
The high demand for raw material for processing could no longer be met with the existing sawmill.
For this reason, another sawmill was equipped with ground-breaking profiling technology.
1985
Only one year later, the company suffered a setback when the old sawmill burned down completely.
However, passion prevailed over hardship. Walter and Gerda decided to re-equip the newly built factory to handle larger dimensions as well, allowing the entire production to take place on a single sawmill.
1986
Land is a scarce commodity in the Inntal, the valley surrounding the Inn River in Tyrol. For this reason, the log yard was moved to the neighboring village of Stans to allow for expansion.
1996
The high demand for plywood gradually increased, and Troger further expanded its market-leading role by constructing a new factory.
Meanwhile, the sawmill cut approximately 150,000 FM per year.
2008
2023
With the installation of a modern photovoltaic system and the expansion of the destacking and sorting facilities for kiln-dried lumber, Troger once again demonstrates its commitment to progress and sustainability.
Tradition and innovation go hand in hand – for efficient, environmentally friendly production and a sustainable future for the company.
